Thing #6

This is Michael.

Kharis has decided that IM is too fast for him (he is used to doing nothing for long periods of time (i.e., 3200 years). Instead, he has decided to serve refreshments. Look at him, he is giving this guy a "Choke"-a-Cola !!!

Now I have used my Hot Mail IM service, and communicated with my new best friend, ldennis@roselle.lib.il.us. Previously, I had used IM (Trillium) on the reference desk, where our patrons greeted me with their immediate requests.

Frankly, I prefer the 'old-fashioned' methods of communication, and will continue to use them, unless I need to IM with patrons at the reference desk. I feel that my life will not be emptier, nor will I be lonesome, without IM in my life.

I can definitely see value for IM as a reference tool and an alternative way for patrons to communicate. They must, however, be aware that even though they may want an IM answer 'yesterday,' it cannot always happen, because we can also have real, live patrons sitting in front of us! Therefore, I see IM as just one more method, among many, for librarians and patrons to communicate.

I have now completed 'Thing #6.'

YAY !!!

No attempts at the extra credit, thank you.
