Thing #10 Roselle's Virtual Library

Kharis has heard the Ancient Gods speaking from upon the Hill of the Seven Jackals, and they have proclaimed the following:

Hi Michael,
I sent another email to Newsbank asking them to verify that they updated our IP addresses after our move from CVI to ICN. Last week they said that they had (and I tried Newsbank and was able to connect) but I noticed the same problem yesterday when I was helping Ruth with Thing #10.

The fact that you tried indicates to me that you completed Thing #10.

Kharis never argues with the Gods, for that will only anger them.

Therefore, let the will of the Ancient Ones be honored !!

Thing #9, Lifelong Learning

Kharis does not care for "Web Junction." First, it is in that darn English language again !! Why can it not be in ancient Egyptian?

Kharis, however, did invoke a special God (Animra, the God of Communication) to interpret.

He did enjoy (and actually took) the course on how to handle difficult patrons. Many tips were given. However, Kharis know that the best way to handle them is to 'give them a hand' and get to the 'neck'st step.

Kharis also registered for this "L2'" thing. He does not like the calendar of events because it is too short. It needs to be for at least 3200 years.

Kharis is not going to get 'wrapped up' in this new technology.

Thing #8

Well, Kharis cannot use this "thing" at all. He only reads ancient Egyptian !!

He is so unhappy with this "cloud" that he is getting in touch with the God of Rage and Anger (Sekhmet) in order to invoke a curse upon these "clouds."

Kharis cannot compare this with other applications, but finds that he likes to carve his own hieroglyphics, with no interference from outsiders. Those who attempt to edit Kharis's writings will receive a 'visit' from him, and it will not be a social call !!!

Thing #7 "Wiki" by Kharis

Kharis has examined the "wikis," and cannot understand them, as they are in English.

Why do not any of you speak or write ancient Egyptian, from the Third Dynasty of King Ptolemy? !!!

As far as these "wikis" go, I did find "Roselle, Illinois" on Wikipedia. However, where are the ancient sites from the Third Valley to the East?

As far as their usefulness goes, Kharis prefers to carve in hieroglyphics. However, if someone has the time to edit and add, these "wikis" might have some use. In my humble opinion (IMHO?), the "wikis" are much too 'busy' (visually).

Kharis prefers to use actual "websites" to obtain the latest incantations and curses, but everyone is different.

Kharis recommends this lecture, to get the latest curses and incantations:

Thing #6

This is Michael.

Kharis has decided that IM is too fast for him (he is used to doing nothing for long periods of time (i.e., 3200 years). Instead, he has decided to serve refreshments. Look at him, he is giving this guy a "Choke"-a-Cola !!!

Now I have used my Hot Mail IM service, and communicated with my new best friend, ldennis@roselle.lib.il.us. Previously, I had used IM (Trillium) on the reference desk, where our patrons greeted me with their immediate requests.

Frankly, I prefer the 'old-fashioned' methods of communication, and will continue to use them, unless I need to IM with patrons at the reference desk. I feel that my life will not be emptier, nor will I be lonesome, without IM in my life.

I can definitely see value for IM as a reference tool and an alternative way for patrons to communicate. They must, however, be aware that even though they may want an IM answer 'yesterday,' it cannot always happen, because we can also have real, live patrons sitting in front of us! Therefore, I see IM as just one more method, among many, for librarians and patrons to communicate.

I have now completed 'Thing #6.'

YAY !!!

No attempts at the extra credit, thank you.

Thing (not from the Addams Family) #5

Hello, this is Kharis, back from the dead, for a breath of fresh air (and if you think that I am kidding, try breathing stale, fetid air in a sealed sarcophagus, through gauze, for 3200 years). I have linked you to some very scary scenes, certain to keep you up ALL NIGHT, waiting for that distinctive shamble up to your doorstep. Don' t be afraid. I just want to shake your hand (or neck). Let's sit back and enjoy !! Before we roll the film, does anyone want refreshments? How about a 'Choke-a Cola'? After this, you will be my 'fiend' (Gee, I omitted the 'r'), and I will sing you a 'tomb.'

Love and kisses, as always, Kharis

Things #2, 3, and 4

Thing #2 (RSS)

Thing #3 (Facebook)

Thing #4 (Flicker)

Marcia:

I've completed these three "things," but somehow they did not get 'blogged.'

This is probably because I put the 'blogs' somewhere else.

Hopefully, I will be more successful with blogging "Thing #5."

Thing #1:Blogs

I have no experience with Blogger. I "sampled" the etiquette blog (yes, 'etiquette' is spelled with only one 't').

My opinion of blogs is the same as my opinion about a lot of things: let's wait and see.

Are we having fun yet ????
